Is There Anything Secular for a Christian?

by padapa on Mar.26, 2009, under True Christianity

Sometimes you will hear someone at a church giving announcements say something like this, “here is a secular announcement”.  Dictionary.com defines secular as:

of or pertaining to worldly things or to things that are not regarded as religious, spiritual, or sacred; temporal: secular interests.

If everything I do is supposed to be to God’s honor and glory, is there a part of me or my time that I set that aside from this task?

1 Cor 10:31Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

If not,  I have to take every thought  captive for Christ and nothing is “secular” to me any more.

II Cor 10: 3-5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

That means the way I golf, work, fish, farm, pray, talk and think … all of it is to be done to God’s honor.  If we actually did this, I think that would change the way we are as Christians, and the way that Christians are thought of.
